3 WAYS WE CAN HELP ON TAXES!

Did you make extra income this year, but don’t want it to affect your taxes?

IRAs are the perfect place to put your money. Since this is a retirement account, you may not have to pay taxes on these funds. Talk to us to see if an IRA is right for you.

Do you need extra money, but want the interest to be tax deductible?

Home equity loans are one of the few loans that benefit you in tax season. Since this is a mortgage-type loan, the interest on the loan may be tax deductible! (Consult your tax advisor)

Do you want your tax refund up to 2 weeks faster?

To receive your tax refund up to 2 weeks faster electronically, fill out the “Refund” section of your 1040 tax form with your account number and the SRCFCU routing number 263280939.

EXPOSED! 0% Credit Card Offers

O% Credit Cards EXPOSED — 4 THINGS TO BEWARE

Have you seen those 0% credit card offers? This article uncovers why SRCFCU does not participate in gimmicks like this and why you should not be deceived by them.

1. High Transfer Fees

A “transfer fee” is a penalty for transferring another credit card balance to the 0% card–usually a percentage of the balance.  While many people are desperate for debt relief,  they won’t find it in one of these offers.

2. Sudden Rate Hikes

Obviously, 0% is just an introductory rate. These credit card companies are in business to make money.  When the offer ends, you may find yourself paying a high rate…or worse, a variable rate which could jump even higher at any time.

3. Hidden Penalties

Did you know that some credit card companies void introductory rates if you are ever late on a payment?  0% offers are a gimmick to get your business.  Once they have it, be aware of ways they may end it prematurely.

4. Other Fees

There are several other fees companies commonly use to get your money. Be sure to read the fine print looking for terms like: Annual Fee, Balance Transfer Fee, Cash Advance Fee, Conversion Fee, Closure Fee, Inactivity Fee and Late Fee.

Don’t make these mistakes. Experience relief from your credit card debt with a SRCFCU MasterCard. Get started today!

Pay Yourself – It’s a Good Habit to Make

You pay your bills. You tip your waiter. You pay for your groceries…But who pays you?  Sure, you may get a paycheck, but how much of it do you get to keep?  Make saving money a habit. Here is my story of how I used my Credit Union to not only brighten my outlook on saving money and life as a whole.
savingMy True Story:
CHAPTER 1-The Plot Thickens.

Once upon a time, I was good at saving.  I had my paycheck direct deposited into my savings account, and only transferred enough funds into checking for my monthly expenses.  At one time, I saw my Credit Union savings grow to over $13,000.  But slowly, as times got a little tighter, I started to dump my whole paycheck into my checking account. Then, I started using my savings to cover big expenses that “popped” up.  Before I knew it, my savings account dwindled to $800 and didn’t grow for YEARS…maybe even a decade.
CHAPTER 2 – Things take a turn.
It took even harder financial times to put my back against the wall and realize the truth: I am always going to be financially strapped unless I do something about it. I will always have bills to pay: why not just look at my savings account as another bill I HAD to pay.  I gave myself a minimum payment and a maximum payment depending on the month.
Honestly, that first time I went to transfer the money into my savings account, I had a bit of a panic attack. I struggled and debated within myself.  It felt almost wrong to take it out of my checking balance.  Then I realized!  It’s still MY money, it is still accessible to me anytime I need it.  When I get scared, I can even pull up my account online and look at it.
CHAPTER 3 – Happily Ever After
The biggest change I have seen is that I no longer feel like a financial victim. I feel like I am controlling my money instead of the other way around.  Yes, I still have bills, I still have to live within my means, but I have a little in savings–and that is growing every month.
